What is Flying Blue?
Flying Blue is the rewards programme from Air France and KLM. With KLM flying to a number of regional airports in the UK, they can often make an excellent alternative for those who don’t like travelling from London.
How can you earn points?
Although there is not currently a dedicated UK credit card associated with Flying Blue, they are a transfer partner for American Express. As such American Express Membership Rewards points can be transferred at a rate of 1:1. For more information about which American Express cards collect Membership Rewards points together with details on how to apply, check out our Airlines Credit Card page.
Additionally you can buy, transfer and gift miles.
What are points worth?
As with other air mile programmes, the value of your miles depends on how you choose to redeem. Cash based redemptions through the online shop typically represent the worst value, with flight redemptions in premium classes giving the best value in terms on pence per point.
For air travel redemptions it is easy to achieve a 1p per point rate.
Unlike other reward schemes however, Flying Blue has a regular offer known as promo rewards, which offers discounted reward flights for as little as 50% of the usual required miles. The travel dates are usually fairly restrictive, although if you are looking for a trip at short notice, it can have some interesting offers.
Promo offers can be found here.
Which airlines can points be redeemed on?
The simple answer is lots! There are over 36 airlines that you can earn miles through, and 39 that you can redeem through. The full list can be found here.
How can miles be redeemed?
The main way of redeeming miles is through reward tickets (you only pay taxes and fees) and upgrades. With Flying Blue you can additionally use your miles to: pay for additional bags, book a more comfortable seat, on-board food from the ‘A la Carte’ menu or for access to Air France, KLM or selected SkyTeam airport lounges.
