What is the Flying Club?
This article is aimed at describing everything you need to know about Flying Club - the airmile reward scheme of Virgin Atlantic. Much like Avios, Virgin Atlantic has made collecting their Flying Club miles incredibly easy - flying, shopping, hotel stays, and car hire can all earn miles. Mileage points can then be redeemed to either: discount the cost of your flight ('miles plus money'), for reward flights (you still need to pay the taxes), a companion ticket when purchasing an eligible fare (again you need to pay taxes), or transferred through their spending partners to give you hotel stays, rail journeys or other services offered by Virgin group.
What are Flying Club miles worth?
As always with mileage points, the value of your miles depends on how you redeem them. Flight redemptions usually offer the best value or 'pence per mile' however, the best redemption is the one you are happiest with!
As with Avios, 1p per mile is a realistic achievement in most circumstance.
Flying Club miles can be earnt in a variety of ways:
- Virgin Atlantic flights
- Partner airlines (found here)
- Tesco Clubcard transfers
- Heathrow Rewards transfers
- Hotel Reward schemes (IHG, Hilton, SPG, World of Hyatt, Marriott)
- Texaco Star Rewards transfers
- American Express Membership Rewards transfers
- e-Rewards market Research
- Online purchases with selected retailers
Miles can also be purchased for £15 per 1,000 miles. It should be noted that there is a £15 one-off charge per transaction so 1,000 miles would cost £30, 2,000 miles would cost £45.
Unfortunately the two Virgin Atlantic Credit Cards, offered by MBNA, have been pulled and are not accepting new customers. They are however, likely to be relaunched under the Virgin Money brand.
