Today Avios.com has begun emailing members to inform them that the avios.com platform will no longer exist in its current form from May 20th.
You will no longer be able to hold an avios.com account - all UK account balances will be transferred to a British Airways Executive account (new accounts will be created where necessary).
Currently it looks like avios.com will remain as a website, but will become the platform used by all members to redeem their miles rather than being a stand-alone scheme to collect Avios.
These changes are being brought in to simplify the Avios air mile scheme. The only negative affect these changes could have, relate to redeeming partners with the possibility that some partners who are currently only available on avios.com likely to be dropped if they are unable to transfer to the BA Executive Club. These changes are not a hidden attempt to devalue your Avios.
Between the May 21st and July 31st your avios.com balance will be transferred to a British Airways Executive Club account. This will allow you access to virtually the same collection and redemption options at the same prices. This includes use of the estore to collect additional Avios points when shopping online.
As mentioned above these changes are not a devaluation of the Avios scheme, but rather a way of simplifying Avios to make it less complicated.
