American Express Platinum Card

With most frequent flyer sites avoiding this tip (due to their inability to monetise the link), few people realise that it is possible to upgrade an American Express Preferred Rewards Gold card to the American Express Platinum card. Even fewer people realise that there is a 20,000 point sign-up bonus for doing so!

This means that anyone looking to get the American Express Platinum card can receive up to 42,000 points instead of the usual 30,000 (20,000 sign-up bonus for the Preferred Rewards Gold card + 2,000 if referred by an existing card member [contact me here if you would like a referral] + 20,000 upgrade bonus).

To get the 20,000 points upgrade bonus you simply need to spend £1,000 in the first 3 months of your upgrade.

Full details about both cards can be found here.

Anyone wishing to upgrade their card to the American Express Platinum card, can do so by visiting American Express here.
