UK Railcards - Guide

A great way to save money on a rail fare (read our article on finding cheap train tickets here), is to purchase a railcard. Provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you can save at least 13 off certain rail fares.

16-25 Railcard
  • Benefits - Young people.
  • Am I eligible? - Aged 16-25, or a full-time student aged 26+.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year (or you can purchase a 3-year card, online, for £70).
  • What will I save? - Average annual saving of £199.
26-30 Railcard
  • Benefits - Aged 26-30.
  • Am I eligible? - Aged 26-30.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year.
  • What will I save? - 13 off most rail fares in the UK.
Two Together Railcard
  • Benefits - If you travel with a friend or partner.
  • Am I eligible? - Two named adults (both aged 16+), who will be travelling together, by train.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year.
  • What will I save? - Average annual saving of £129.
Family & Friends Railcard
  • Benefits - If you travel with a child.
  • Am I eligible? - Travelling with at least one child, aged between 5-15 years. Two adults can be named on the card. Up to four adults and four children can use one card and receive a discount, provided one of the adults is named on the card.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year (or you can purchase a 3-year card, online, for £70).
  • What will I save? - Average annual saving of £141.
Senior Railcard
  • Am I eligible? - Aged 60 or above.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year (or you can purchase a 3-year card, online, for £70).
  • What will I save? - Average annual saving of £125.
Disabled Persons Railcard
  • Am I eligible? - Elibility is determined if you have a disability which makes it difficult to travel by train.
  • How much will it cost? - £20 per year (or you can purchase a 3-year card, online, for £54).
  • What will I save? - 13 off most fares, for you and one adult.
Network Railcard
  • Am I eligible? - For those travelling in the South East, aged 16 or over.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year.
  • What will I save? - Average annual saving of £191.
16-17 Saver
  • Am I eligible? - For those aged 16 and 17.
  • How much will it cost? - £30 per year.
  • What will I save? - 50% off most rail fares.
